I am a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Criminal Justice, University of Cincinnati, Ohio. I also pursue a graduate certificate in Public Opinion and Survey Research. I am a Fulbright Scholar and also a Gabbard Research Associate Fellow in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services for the academic year 2009-2010. My doctoral studies are partially funded by the public welfare foundation "The Bakalas Foundation" which is established in Athens, Greece. I hold a bachelor's degree with honours in Communication and Media Studies and a master's degree with honours in Political Communication and New Technologies from the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My master's thesis titled "A Condemned Audience? A Study of the Media Use of Prisoners" has been published by Ant. N. Sakkoulas Publishers in the book series "Media+Crime" (December 2006, ISBN: 978-960-15- 1722-3, in Greek). The book examines, through theory and research, the use of the Mass Media in the prison environment, and more specifically in Greek penitentiaries. [ Abstract in .pdf ] During my studies in Athens, I was affiliated to the New Technologies Laboratory of the Department of Communication and Media Studies and I was involved in a number of its research projects. I was also working as a journalist for online and traditional newspapers and magazines. I am a regular member of the Periodical and Electronic Press Union of Greece.
I was born 29 years ago in Meligou Kynourias, which is in the central east Peloponnese. There I spent the first eighteen years of my life and then I moved to Athens (Greece) where I lived for approximately eight years.
